Why double cleansing is a must!

The Importance of Double Cleansing: The easiest way to change your skin game!

At Amanda Taylor Esthetics, I believe that healthy, glowing skin starts with a solid skincare routine. One of the best habits you can add to your nightly regimen is double cleansing. While it may sound like an extra step, it’s actually a game-changer when it comes to thoroughly cleansing your skin and maintaining its natural radiance. 50% of your routines results come from this one small change!

What is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing is exactly what it sounds like—cleansing your skin twice. Think of it like SWEEPING and MOPPING. the first cleanse is your BROOM- to start off, you can use any cleanser. for my beginner clients, I usually recommend they start with one cleanser if that’s what is easiest for them. We will graduate them to two cleansers later if necessary. The first cleanse is ESSENTIAL to removes makeup, sunscreen, and any excess oils from the surface of your skin. The second step is our MOP- now that all the dirt is off the floor with our first cleanse, the second cleanse can go indeeper into your pores to clear out dirt, sweat, and impurities. Cleansing your face once is like mopping a dirty floor without sweeping. You’re basically just moving around wet dirt and not getting a thorough clean.

Why is Double Cleansing So Important?

  1. Removes All Traces of Makeup & Sunscreen
Even if you use makeup wipes or a quick wash with your regular cleanser, you’re likely leaving behind traces of makeup and SPF. These products can clog your pores over time, leading to breakouts or dull skin. Double cleansing ensures nothing is left behind.

  2. Prevents Clogged Pores & Breakouts
By thoroughly removing all impurities, double cleansing helps reduce the risk of clogged pores and prevents acne or congestion from forming. When your skin is fully clean, it can breathe, repair itself, and maintain a healthy balance.

  3. Enhances Your Skincare Routine
A clean canvas allows your serums, moisturizers, and treatments to absorb better and work more effectively. When your skin is properly cleansed, your other skincare products can penetrate deeper, giving you better results.

  4. Soothing & Hydrating
Using an oil-based cleanser in the first step helps balance your skin’s natural oils while adding moisture, leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated. It’s a great way to gently remove stubborn makeup without stripping your skin of its natural moisture.

  5. 50% of your routine. arguably the most important step of your nightly routine (you dont need to do it in the morning!)

The best way to Double Cleanse

  1. Use Epicutis Oil Cleanser. Apply with dry hands to a dry face and rub for 30 seconds before adding water. Massage water and Oil Cleanser for 30 more seconds before rinsing off and drying face with a Clean Skin Club Towel.

  2. Use a second treatment cleanser. For dry/sensitive skin types, I recommend a creamy cleanser like the Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser from Face Reality. You can check out all of ATE’s great, professional grade cleansers here

Double cleansing may add an extra minute or two to your nighttime routine, but the benefits are worth it. Not only will your skin feel fresh and clean, but it will also be better prepared to absorb your nightly skincare, leading to a glowing, healthy complexion. If you’re not already double cleansing, give it a try tonight and see the difference for yourself!
